Inverting and subverting the expected uses of everyday materials, Yuken Teruya creates paper works and miniature worlds that are the highlight of Hanging in the Balance, which showcases three artists: Teruya, Lloyd Durling and Masakatsu Kondo. On at the Pippy Houldsworth Gallery until February 21st, the exhibition investigates our relationship with nature and landscape through work including drawing and painting.
Shown here are a couple of examples of the meticulously manufactured paper forms created by Teruya from reclaimed paper products like toilet rolls or paper bags; questioning our relationship with wood and paper, natural and mechanical, and creating objects that are beautiful and thought provoking.
